FAQ

We update this guide from time to time to answer most of the questions people may have.

What is Consurf?

Consurf is a furry-made website aiming to help members of the furry fandom connect for ride-shares and room-shares when attending furry conventions. It helps centralize discussion in one location - once enough people use it, it will save everyone the necessity to scavenge Telegram, Discord, Facebook and other apps in search for a room or a ride.

Offering and looking for accomodation

What "accomodation" means?

Some examples of accomodations can be:

  • In a hotel furry convention, a spare bed in a hotel room
  • A place to sleep before or after a furry convention that is not in a hotel
  • A cabin, where people need to organize a group to bunk to gether in a camping con

What's an Ad (Advertisement)?

An "Ad" is what we call a submission made by you and other users when Offering or In Need of something. This term comes from old community boards, where people poast "Ads" in a board in public locations.

Can I offer or request a place in a specific hotel?

Yes! Consurf allows you to choose a hotel (we call it "Venues"). Those Venues are contributions made by other users on a specific Event - you can add missing venues if you find out that the one you need is not there.

For example, Midwest FurFest event will have multiple Venues, you can choose one.

I have a place, but it's not in a hotel, can I offer?

If it applies, yes. Remember, it's all about in the spirit of facilitating access to and from a furry convention. In the creation form, you have the option to write a custom location.

A good example is a camping convention in Canada called CampFeral - most people travel from all around into Toronto, where the charted bus to the camping grounds departs. This people often need to find accomodation in Toronto for a few days before and after CampFeral bus. Someone willing to offer a sofa or a bed in their homes counts as a place.

What does "Main" means when looking at places?

It means that the venue is where most, if not all of the convention happens. If there are other venues listed, they are overflow accomodations.

Offering and looking for rides

What does a "roundtrip" means?

If you select, all it means you are open to discuss the trip back on the same Advertisement. This avoids you the need to create two Ads for each leg of the journey. This is purely informative and Consurf does not tie this to any route planning.

I will stop in a different location before reaching the destination, how to say that?

Always put the Departure city and set your final destination as the Arrival. In your description, include the stops you plan to make along the way.

What to put in the Departure and Arrival fields?

It's purely informative. We recommend adding a City and State/Province, like "Toronto, ON", or "Rosemont, IL". Sometimes it's easier to use local known terms, like "GTA" for "Greather Toronto Area" for example - just think about who you expect to read your Ad, and if they will understand.

Another example could be: "Toronto, ON" -> "Main Venue", if it's easy to understand, you are doing it right.

You can work the details of pick up and drop off address in the Private Messages.

Interacting on Consurf

The "Price per spot" is open, can I write anything?

Yes, like most fields, they are informative. You can use "Approx. $250" or "Split Gas", or the precise amount of money. Remember to abide by our terms and conditions and do not offer things that can be perceived as bad solicitation, like drugs or sexual exchange.

I'm receiving too many private messages, can I stop?

Absolutely, go to your advertisement, and hit "Edit". From there, there is a switch labeled "Open". Toggling it Off and saving will prevent new messages to be sent. But existing private message threads will remain open for you to continue. You can re-open for new messages anytime.

I'm done with my advertisement, do I need to delete?

Not needed. As a courtesy, toggle new messages OFF by editing your advertisement so people know you are not accepting new inquires. Consurf will retain your advertisement and it will be automatically deleted a few days after the event ends.

A person is being obnoxious in my Private Messages, can I stop them?

You can. A person can only have one private message thread per advertisement with you. On the chat, you can click on the vertical elipsis and select "Stop messaging": This will block the chat. However, it will not block this person to connect with you again if you post a new advertisement.

Someone is doing unaceptable things on my private message

Every conversation in your Private Message screen have a Report button. This will allow you to file a report - be specific on the issue so we can help you fast. Note that doing so, you grant permission for the admins to look at the private messages you reported.

Somone is clearly a minor, what do I do?

On the footer of Consurf there is a "Report a problem", use this to report your suspicion, and we will do the rest.

Can I block people?

Not currently, if it's a feature you'd like to have soon, help us prioritize our roadmap. Consider supporting us to have early access to features like this, and help make Consurf a safer place 💖

Conventions

The convention I want to go doesn't exist, I can't create it

Consurf sources all its conventions from a centralized GitHub repository managed by "Canadian C2C". There are two ways to get a convention here:

Once a convention is loaded into Consurf by a moderator, you can start adding convention dates to it for years to come!

A convention is defunct, can it be removed from Consurf?

Yes, help us by maintaining the convention list, without you, it's hard to keep it fresh. Let us know in this form.
